How to Make Your Bedroom Feel Like a Hotel: 15+ Tips

Sharing is caring!

If you’re tired of only getting that hotel vibe once or twice a year, keep reading. Because I’m going to share 15+ tips on how to make your bedroom feel like a hotel, so you’ll never have to miss out on that feeling ever again.

15+ Ways to Make Your Bedroom Feel Like a Hotel

1 | The Bed

I feel like this is by far the most important part in making your bedroom feel and look like a hotel room. At the end of the day, your bed takes up most of your space, right? So, make sure you pay attention to these things:

  1. Bedding: Try to go for lighter colors like white, cream, or pastel shades. Hotels usually use cotton, linen, or satin for their bedding. That’s why I recommend you choose these fabrics as well.
  2. Pillows: One pillow is not enough. Aim for 4-6 pillows, depending on whether you sleep alone or not. Use one standard-sized pillow, two decorative throw pillows, and perhaps a round throw pillow. What this does is make your bed look so much more luxurious and high-end. Be sure to use a variety of different textures.
  3. Throw Blanket: Just as important as decorative pillows. Place one at the foot of your bed to create a luxury feel. Choose wool, cashmere, or knit.
  4. Fitted sheets: Make sure they’re pulled tight, because wrinkles make them look cheap.

2 | Lighting

Hotel rooms usually feel much cozier than our own bedrooms. And one of the reasons for this is the lighting. You’ll never find just a single light source in a hotel room.

There are often bedside lamps, floor lamps, table lamps, you name it. This way, the room always gives off a cozy feeling.

Of course, most bedrooms don’t have enough space for so many lamps, but at least try to place symmetrical bedside lamps and perhaps LED strips behind the headboard.

You can then combine this with floor-to-ceiling blackout curtains that darken your bedroom and give you a sense of peace.

3 | Symmetry

Our brain equals symmetry with peace and calm. This is why it’s so important to pay attention to how you design and decorate your bedroom. Plus, it’s pretty easy to pull off.

Since your bed is the focal point, make sure it’s positioned right in the center of the wall.

Then you can place identical nightstands on either side of the bed and put the same lamp on each one. This creates a sense of visual balance that radiates calm rather than chaos.

Tip: If you don’t have much space, go for wall lamps instead. You could also choose similar nightstands instead of identical ones if one of them needs to be smaller.

4 | Hidden Storage Space

One of the reasons a hotel room feels luxurious is that it’s never cluttered when you walk in. And that’s exactly what you should aim for in your own bedroom. So make sure there are hardly any items lying around, and keep your nightstand completely clear.

Obviously, this doesn’t just apply to your nightstand, but to all the other pieces of furniture in your room that are clearly visible. If you keep that in mind, the atmosphere in your bedroom will already be much more relaxed.

Moving on to your closet. In a hotel room, closets are never actually packed to the brim. There’s always a little breathing room. To recreate that in your own bathroom, you’ll need to get rid of things you don’t really need. It will make your space feel so much more luxurious, I promise.

Another thing is that you need to keep your cables hidden. I mean, we all know that when all the cables are lying around like a mess, it looks…well…like a mess. You can use cable organizers or try hiding them behind furniture; just find a way to keep them out of sight.

One last thing: If you also use your bedroom as a home office, you should definitely separate your workspace from your sleeping area. You can do this by clearing off your desk before going to bed or setting up a folding screen to separate the two areas. I know that was a lot to take in, but these tips will definitely make your bedroom feel more like a hotel room.

5 | Rugs

This is the next important thing. When you see 5-star hotels online, you’ll notice that a lot of them use rugs. There are good reasons behind this. It gives off a luxurious feel, and it also helps reduce noise, which only adds to that feel. Plus, rugs immediately make your space so much cozier.

Most traditional hotels have carpeted floors, as these, as I mentioned earlier, are excellent at dampening noise. Virgin wool is typically used for this purpose.

In modern hotels, however, things are a bit different. There, hardwood floors are often installed, and a rug is placed under the bed.

The rug must be large enough to cover the nightstand as well. It should therefore extend about 60–90 cm beyond the edges of the bed.

To recreate this look at home, use a wool-viscose blend for extra sheen, but stick to neutral colors.

6 | The Headboard

We’ve found out by now that the bed is not just a bed, it’s the centerpiece. However, the bed itself isn’t the special thing, it’s the headboard.

Hotels use headboards to frame the sleeping area by playing with height and texture. This works very well because a tall headboard makes the ceilings appear higher than they actually are.

Or, for a more relaxed vibe, upholstered fabrics like velvet are often used because they help dampen noise.

What also makes a big difference is a headboard that’s wider than your mattress and even covers your nightstands. This basically helps create a cohesive look and keeps your furniture from looking completely lost.

Tip: You don’t have to buy a new bed. Instead, go for a large, fabric-covered wall panel or a boldly painted area behind your bed. That’s how you achieve this designer look. (Think of navy blue, sage green, off-white, warm grey or a creamy white)

7 | Cohesive Look

When you look at hotel rooms, you’ll notice they always look cohesive. The furniture looks identical because it’s all from the same color family; otherwise, the room would feel chaotic.

If you’ve already bought your furniture and it doesn’t match, don’t worry. There are easy ways around it:

  • Switch out the hardware (handles and knobs)
  • Add custom top plates (glass, marble, or wood) from a hardware store to unify the surfaces
  • Use a large bedspread to hide a bed frame that doesn’t fit the vibe
  • Hide a mismatched closet behind a floor-to-ceiling curtain
  • Use furniture wrap (cheap & easy)
  • Paint your furniture for a completely uniform look

Tip: Don’t overcrowd your bedroom with a bunch of furniture pieces and instead stick to fewer but larger pieces. This creates a much stronger impact.

8 | Multiple Zones

A great hotel room always feels like more than just a place to sleep. Have you noticed how they often include an armchair or a bench at the foot of the bed? It creates distinct zones.

To get this feeling at home, add a bed bench or a cozy armchair paired with a floor lamp. This transforms a corner of your room into a spot for reading or drinking coffee.

It’s not just cozy, it also makes your bedroom feel like a functional, multi-purpose suite.

9 | Layering Textures

If you don’t want your bedroom to look boring, then you definitely need to mix up your surfaces. Basically, that’s what I mean by ‘layering textures’. Like, mixing smooth pieces with softer pieces.

For example, you could put a sleek glass or a marble plate on your nightstand and combine it with a nice, fluffy rug or chunky linen pillows.

The reason is that this gives your room depth and creates a high-end look. Trust me, this will make you just want to jump right in.

10 | Luxury Extras

Your bedroom doesn’t need a whole lot of decorations for it to feel like a hotel room. Because if we look at actual hotel rooms, decor is kept to a minimum.

Go for stuff like flowers that you can put on your nightstand in a cute vase. Or you can place a high-quality coffee table book or a single, elegant candle on a tray.  The key really is quality > quantity.

11 | The Scent

Ever notice how luxury hotels always smell amazing the second you walk in? That’s not by mistake.

And truthfully, it’s the easiest way to make your bedroom feel like a hotel room. But definitely stay away from cheap and overpowering sprays.

Instead, try a minimalist reed diffuser or a nice, high-quality candle. Try scents like white tea, sandalwood, or fresh linen (the last one is my favorite!). It will always have your room smelling clean.

The End

We’ve now come to the end of the post, and as you can tell, it’s definitely not all about spending thousands of dollars on new furniture or just a whole new look. What it’s really about is making small changes that will instantly update your space. Like switching out the hardware, putting a rug underneath your bed, or keeping your room clean.

Also, you don’t have to implement everything all at once because, honestly, who has time for that? Start small, maybe your bedroom doesn’t even need that much for a transformation
